Detroit, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids Memorial Day Events 2018
Memorial Day weekend is considered the unofficial kickoff to summer. This weekend is often filled with cookouts, parades, and bonfires with family, friends, and loved ones. Get your summer off to a great start by attending one of these Memorial Day parades and other family events in the Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids areas.
Memorial Day Events in the Detroit and Ann Arbor Area
The Pontiac Spring Carnival is back by popular demand for another year of fun! This family-friendly event will begin on Wednesday, May 23rd and last through Sunday, May 27th. The event will feature rides, games, food, and prizes. Parking and admission to the carnival are free, and all-day ride tickets are available for purchase at the doors.
Friday, May 25th will kick off the opening of the Troy Aquatic Center! The Troy Aquatic Center is more than just a pool- it has two awesome water slides, a tube slide, sand volleyball courts, and a playground. Visitors on opening day can enjoy special pricing of only $5.
On Sunday May 27th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade will take place in St. Clair. Preceded with a 5k walk/run, the parade is one of the largest in the country with over 80,000 spectators expected. This event will feature over 110 entries of military groups, classic cars, beauty queens, marching bands, and local officials. The parade will kick off with a jet flyover from Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
Memorial Day Events in the Grand Rapids Area
From May 25th through May 26th, Grand Haven’s Veterans of Foreign Wars will be hosting the 14th Annual Rib Fest. Admission to this event is free, and it will feature samples of some of the best ribs in the Midwest, live music, and activities for kids. Not a fan of ribs? You can still enjoy the fun as additional food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Starting at 9:00 AM on Memorial Day, the Georgetown Charter Township’s Jenison Memorial Day Parade will begin. Kicking off after the annual 5k race ends, the parade travels down Baldwin Street from 20th Avenue to Cottonwood Drive.
On Memorial Day Monday at 10:00 AM, the Kalamazoo Memorial Day Parade will commence. This event will begin in Downtown Kalamazoo and end at the Riverside Cemetery for a Memorial Day speaker and ceremony.
